Adeyinka Hassan
Adeyinka Hassan, a Chartered Secretary, Corporate Governance Consultant, Lawyer and Entrepreneur. He is a 1994 graduate of Laws from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in March 1995. He holds Master degrees in Laws, Business Administration, Corporate Governance (with a distinction) specializing in Financial Services Regulations and Certificate in Entrepreneurship. He is an Alumnus of the London South Bank University and The London School of Management.
He started his career in 1995 with Pipelines & Petroleum Products Marketing Company Limited. (a subsidiary of NNPC). He joined Industrial and General Insurance Co Ltd. In 1996, in pursuance of private practice experience, he worked with the Law Firm of Osinaike & Associates and later with Akinwunmi & Busari, a front line Commercial Practice in Lagos, where he garnered extensive commercial litigation experience before proceeding for a Master degree in Laws.
Upon completion of the Master degree, he worked with the defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc., where he served variously as Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Regional Legal Adviser and Relationship Manager, Retail & Personal Banking. He also worked with Equitorial Trust Bank Limited and later joined First City Monument Bank Plc where he rose to the position of Zonal Manager, Retail Banking, overseeing the Bank’s business activities in Ogun State.
Until his voluntary disengagement from the Bank to pursue his passion, he was responsible for the business activities of the Bank in Ogun State, Nigeria. Hassan is involved in negotiating complex commercial transactions and structured financing, including litigation arising therefrom. He has handled various Advisory Services spanning Capital Markets, Financial Advisory, Corporate Governance, Investments Advisory and Corporate Restructuring.
He has made remarkable contributions to the study of Regulations both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom with his various research works which have been acknowledged on the Social Science Research Network. He has attended various Conferences and Seminars in Europe, Middle East, and the United States and in Nigeria and has been a regular Speaker at these Conferences.
Hassan is currently a research scholar at Babcock University with special interest in corporate governance and entrepreneurial success. He belongs to various professional bodies including the International Bar Association, the Nigerian Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Capital Market Solicitors Association, the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria, the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSAN), Chartered Institute of Administration (CIA), and the Institute of Directors.
He is a Fellow of both ICSAN and CIA, he was admitted into the Council of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in 2010 and served as the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Institute from 2012 to 2014. He is currently the Chairman of Membership & Branch Liaison Committee of the Institute. He is also a member of the governing council of the Institute of Directors, Nigeria. He is the Founder and Principal Partner of H. Michael & Co, a vibrant Law & Corporate Governance Practice in Victoria Island, Lagos. He consults in Corporate Governance for both private and public quoted companies as well as being Director and Secretary to Company Boards.
